The year 2020 is almost over. What a year it has been. Usually I am able to visit the UK and stumble into new books. This year there was no chance to visit. I did discover some new books, but also some old books that are out of print.
I had plenty of time to read those books. Some were nice reads, others impressed me very much. I discovered some American classics. I write more about this in other blogs.
I have a funny way of reading books. I always have a few books on my bedside table. One day I am in the mood for a thriller, another time I read a biography or history book. And I never loose track of the story.
This year saw the end of the Thomas Cromwell trilogy by Hilary Mantel and a new book by Rachel Joyce. Those were highlights for me. As for the American classics Gone With The Wind was one of them. I was very impressed with the book and I have some others to read.
I also bought some biographies about the some stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Errol Flynn ghostwrote his own biography. The books about Clark Gable were nice, especially the ones written by his last wife Kathleen Gable and his assistant Jean Garceau. The one that stood out was a book written by David Niven. Bring On The Empty Horses is a gem amongst those books. He wrote about his co-movie stars in a candid way. It’s a book with a laugh and a tear.
An eyeopener this year was open by Frankie Bridge. Everyone who suffer from or know someone who battles with it should read this book. Frankie is very open and honest about her battle.
I hope that the year 2021 will be better for all of us. I hope to find more new or old books.
